Steripen Journey LCD Purifier
PRICE $99.95
Usually ships in 2-3 business days

The SteriPEN JourneyLCD Purifier allows you to quickly purifier water without any guesswork or hassle. Like all SteriPEN Products, the Journey LCD uses UV light to disable biological pathogens in your water. However the Journey’s LCD screen gives you a readout of the selected dosage, battery life and a countdown timer. The Journey is effective against viruses, bacteria and protozoa including cryptosporidium, Giardia, E coli and more.

The screen also keeps track of the number of uses and indicates when the lamp approaches its life limit, typically about 10,000 cycles. This new extra long lamp life allows you to treat 1 liter of water, four times per day for almost seven years.

The JourneyLCD mates with the SteriPEN Prefilter , a 4 micron filter that is compatable with most wide-mouth bottles. Two CR123 lithium batteries are required for operation. Lithium batteries have a ten-year shelf life, perform better in cold weather and weigh 30% lighter than equivalent alkaline batteries. We recommend SureFire 123A batteries, which provide about 115, 16 oz. doses.

The Journey weighs 5 oz. with batteries and includes the Journey purifier, carrying case, user’s guide, batteries and a limited lifetime warranty.

About SteriPEN Microbiological Purifiers

SteriPEN water purifiers disinfect water with light. The high energy, ultraviolet light produced by the SteriPEN destroys the DNA of any microbes that may be present thus preventing reproduction and rendering the organism harmless. This same type of process is used commercially in bottling plants, hospitals and water treatment facilities. SteriPEN devices do not add chemicals or alter the taste of water.

When used as directed the SteriPEN will not cause any UV exposure to the user. The UV-C light produced by the device will not pass through most materials. Water containers made from glass, ceramic, metal and nearly all plastics block UV-C transmission. Also the underside of the air/water surface in the container acts as a reflector of UV-C. The SteriPEN has sensors that prevent the unit from operating unless immersed in water.

When in use, the SteriPEN automatically controls the operation time. You set the volume of water to be treated, either .5 liter or less or between .5 and 1 liter. When activated and placed in water, the unit automatically delivers the appropriate dose for that volume and temperature of water. It’s important to gently sir or agitate the water while dosing to ensure uniform UV treatment.

The SteriPEN lamp is fluorescent and does not have a filament to break or burn out. Made of thick quartz, it is also very durable and should never need replacement. It has been programmed, however, to shut down after 8000 doses. That’s the equivalent of over 3 doses per day, everyday for 7 years.

If clear water is not available, use a prefilter. SteriPEN offers a inexpensive 4 micron filter for this purpose, but in a pinch you might use a coffee filter, bandanna or other item. Also, simply letting the particulate settle to the bottom and pouring off the clear water into another container might work. If it is an emergency, you can treat turbid water by doubling the dose.
